The song seamlessly blends distorted guitar riffs with transitions that are both powerful and captivating. The contrasting clean and growl vocals add a dynamic dimension to the vocal melody, creating a balance between gritty and smooth. As the track progresses, the uplifting chorus section rises above the low-down nature of the rest of the song. “Lately” is the brainchild of two Canadian friends and talented artists, Kala and Todd Barriage. What started as an instrumental for Todd’s band, Theatria, quickly transformed into a pop-punk banger with Kala’s fresh spin on lyrics and melodies.
The moment I hit play, the punchy drums, fast riffs, and captivating vocal effects had me hooked. What really stood out to me were the vocal melodies and the raw and relatable story behind the lyrics. One of my favorite sections was the breakdown when Kala sings “finally got closure” leading into a big guitar progression and drawn out chorus. Heaven Unknown’s new track, “Nothingmore.” explores all the angles of post-hardcore, emo, and metal styles in a dynamic progression.
I was especially drawn to this track due to its free-flowing nature in combination with powerful guitars and vocals. The guitars are big-sounding, with a warm tone, providing a solid resting place for clean and growl vocals. The punchy growl vocals and drums have an awesome contrast with the long sustained clean vocals as well. Sticking around until the breakdown, I loved the spacious effects on vocals and lead guitar to transition. If you’re a fan of the post-hardcore style, and you enjoy a heavy but emotive track, this may be the one!

Finland metalcore band, Everture, just released their powerhouse of a track, “Evil Eyes.”
The lead vocalist’s clean vocals are packed with warmth and blend perfectly with the beefy guitars and drums. With a hard rock spin on the production, the growl vocals and guitar solo come in as a nice contrast, rounding out the overall metalcore sound. I especially liked the grinding bass in verses and use of synth for an atmospheric mood. Pop-punk band, From States Away, show their appreciation for all that have been there over the years in their new track, “Held Me Down!”
Held Me Down has all the punch and catchiness of your typical pop-punk song, with the addition of some extra grit, aggression, and lead guitar. I especially liked the fast-paced progression and guitar rhythm to build excitement throughout. As with more pop style tracks, the main vocal is extra strong in the mix, so I loved hearing the added aggression and supporting backup vocals. If you like a solid pop-punk style with a bit of guitar and driving distortion, this one might be one to catch!

Metal band, Bridges Ablaze, from Austin Texas, hit us with a hefty riffing track, “Hellbent!”
I enjoyed this track particularly due to its use of heavy guitars, diverse vocals styles, and consistent pacing. While it is certainly a metal song, it doesn’t race to the finish line with overly sped up sections. The speed of the track allows enough room for the riffs and vocals to open up and breathe. The backup vocals and effects mix in for the perfect amount of space and power. The breakdown in the latter half of the song doesn’t disappoint either, complete with a solo and guttural growl. If you’re a fan of the riffing and long sustained vocal style in metalcore, this one may be for you!
