Against The Sun take a stand with “JAD”

Socal metalcore act Against The Sun have released “JAD”, a scathing critique of gun violence in the United States. Filled with lyrics like “It shouldn’t be this easy to fill these caskets”, the song doesn’t pull any punches.

While many songs are politically inspired, it’s rare that I see a regional artist pull it off well – and Against The Sun have absolutely nailed it with “JAD”. From the heavy beginning to the jazzy outro, Against The Sun have poured their thoughts and emotions into this one. Give it a listen!

Against The Sun have asked that, if you have the means, please donate to Everytown to help end gun violence.

The band also recently released “The Enemy”, which you can hear below:

Embrace “The Good Hurt”

“The Good Hurt” by San Diego-based band Nights Like Thieves is a captivating track that showcases the band’s unique sound and energy. The song is an emotional and introspective journey that explores the pain of heartbreak and the struggle to move on.

The track opens with a simple, yet powerful drum fill. The lead vocalist’s voice is raw and emotive, carrying the weight of the lyrics with conviction. The chorus is anthemic and catchy, with a memorable melody that sticks in your head long after the song is over.

Lyrically, “The Good Hurt” is a seems to be about recognizing that a relationship is failing. The lines “you stick around but you never believed in this” and “it’s black and cold, just like your heart” capture the feeling of emptiness and loneliness that can come with mourning a relationship.

Overall, “The Good Hurt” is a standout track from Nights Like Thieves, showcasing the band’s talent and potential. The song is a powerful and relatable depiction of heartbreak and the journey towards healing and moving on. If you’re a fan of rock music with a raw, emotive edge, give “The Good Hurt” a listen!

From States Away rise from the mud with “Held Me Down”

Pop-punk band, From States Away, show their appreciation for all that have been there over the years in their new track, “Held Me Down!”

Held Me Down has all the punch and catchiness of your typical pop-punk song, with the addition of some extra grit, aggression, and lead guitar. I especially liked the fast-paced progression and guitar rhythm to build excitement throughout. As with more pop style tracks, the main vocal is extra strong in the mix, so I loved hearing the added aggression and supporting backup vocals. If you like a solid pop-punk style with a bit of guitar and driving distortion, this one might be one to catch!

Ignoring Royal Hearts would be a Disaster

Do you miss Warped Tour? The heat? The humidity? The music?

If you answered yes to all four of those (or even just the first and last ones), you’re going to enjoy Florida-based metalcore band Royal Hearts.

The band’s latest single, “Disaster”, tosses in just enough familiarity to catch my ear, while straying far away from “generic local band metalcore”. The blend Royal Hearts brings to the table is quite appealing, and Fronz-style vocals even make a brief appearance – the sound will be familiar to anyone who attended the last five or six years of Warped Tour.

We’re “Hellbent” on listening to this new Bridges Ablaze track

Metal band, Bridges Ablaze, from Austin Texas, hit us with a hefty riffing track, “Hellbent!”

I enjoyed this track particularly due to its use of heavy guitars, diverse vocals styles, and consistent pacing. While it is certainly a metal song, it doesn’t race to the finish line with overly sped up sections. The speed of the track allows enough room for the riffs and vocals to open up and breathe. The backup vocals and effects mix in for the perfect amount of space and power. The breakdown in the latter half of the song doesn’t disappoint either, complete with a solo and guttural growl. If you’re a fan of the riffing and long sustained vocal style in metalcore, this one may be for you!

Destroy//Create and Rory Rodriguez of Dayseeker bring it down to a “Whisper (Printemps)”

Metalcore band Destroy//Create, team up with Rory Rodriguez of Dayseeker, to bring us a heavy dynamic story “Whisper (Printemps.)”

With calming clean vocals and guitar building into barking vocals and driving guitars, this song keeps a dynamic flow. I enjoyed listening to the three intensities of vocal styles, mellow, aggressive, and the wide chorus sound. You can really feel the passion put into this, with melody lines and lyrics that pull you in. The instruments keep the track punchy and escalated to match the diverse vocal styles. If you like the story in songs, with contrasting sections and dynamic changes, this one might be worth a listen!

We’re Wolves are heavier than “Titanium”

Metalcore band “We’re Wolves,” open the month with a heavy production “Titanium.”

The video provides awesome contrast, jumping from the clean guitar riff in the studio, to a full-on hefty mix. There are plenty of gut-wrenching growl vocals and riffing sections, with clean vocals as a break from the mayhem. The rhythm and punch in drums set a solid base for the rest of the instruments to thrive. I especially liked the variations in clean vocal melodies when they hit up in the higher register. Combining the visual story with a punchy mix makes for a compelling track any hard rock or metal fans should watch!

Caleb Hyles, Judge & Jury, and Jonathan Young do not “Idolize” numbers!

Caleb Hyles teams up with Judge & Jury and Jonathan Young to deliver a depth-filled hard rock track “Idolize.”

Caleb started off making big waves in the realm of covering songs on YouTube, and we’re not disappointed with his original tracks either! The guitars have a fullness that really shines through while supporting Caleb’s powerful vocals. In addition to the power held in vocals, there is also a catchiness to the melody line that rings through. The width and heaviness present in this song is exceptional, without any abrasive or overly brutal sections. What really pulled me in was the grit on Caleb’s vocal line in high intensity sections. If you want a solid hard rock song that you can sing to, don’t sleep on this one!

Sakoya sell their souls to be “Painted in Gold”

Hard rock band Sakoya, drop a new powerful track “Painted in Gold.”

The grindy guitars and haunting bell sounds in this track provide a perfect space for the clean vocals. The push and pull of the verses to choruses leaves a wide range for dynamics and excitement ramping. Although there are not any growl vocals, the gritty distortion effects on verse melodies keep it spicey and aggressive. The weight and ambience of the riffing instrumental sections especially drew me in on this one. If you’re looking for a gritty and powerful hard rock song without constant growl vocals, this one is worth headbanging to!
