Forget the northern lights… Check out “Eastern Lights”

Pennsylvanian band A Scent Like Wolves have recently released their latest single “Eastern Lights” via We Are Triumphant.

The song is reminiscent of metalcore around 2010, but also adds fresh elements to keep the song from sounding dated.

The vocals stand out in particular, with great clarity even while screaming. No doubt this is in part due to the stellar engineering on the song, but the performance definitely seems to have played a role as well.

Go for a swim with Halfway Atlantic

That’s what it feels like hearing Halfway Atlantic’s new song, “Phantom Pain”.

Just letting the music wash over me, it’s clear that the band has poured a massive amount of emotion into the song – being both vulnerable and honest – to bring it to life.

The band’s only been together for a few years, but it’s clear that they’ve got years of experience among the members, who have toured with several well-known rock and punk bands in the scene.

Witness this catchy new track by Jake Is Lloyd

Split between Los Angeles and Miami, Jake Is Lloyd is not a traditional duo.

Thankfully, in the era of social distancing remote collaboration – even on opposite ends of the country – is not only possible, but happening every day.

As time goes on, I’m sure we’ll see more and more long-distance bands sprouting up.

But that’s not what we’re here to talk about – this post is all about “Witness”, the new track by Jake Is Lloyd, off of their EP Prey & Predator.

The song features catchy lyrics with an ear worm of a guitar riff driving it forward.

Take a listen to this end of summer jam and keep an eye out for more!

It’s time to hold on and listen to this song

Even though the band calls themselves Cold Weather Kids (not to be confused with fellow LA-area band Cold War Kids), there’s no cold weather in their current location of Los Angeles.

Instead, the name stems from their childhoods – each member grew up in a cold, snowy state.

In 2016 the members came together in LA and decided to work on music together, while balancing the usual – running a studio, playing in other bands, and producing for artists.

The band has now released their debut album, Songs We Can’t Finish. Check out the lead single “Holding On” below and be sure to listen to the full release on Spotify!

Midfield beats the competition with “Smackdown of the Century”

It’s nice to see pop punk making a revival, but all too often the songs are poorly produced and not catchy like a song should be. It can be a real bummer.

The good news is Pennsylvania based band Midfield breaks the norm with a killer, well written, and well produced song in the form of “Smackdown of the Century”.

I doubt they were thinking about upstaging other pop punk artists when they came up with the song, but that’s certainly what they’ve done here.

I’m definitely looking forward to hearing what Midfield comes up with next, as they’re clearly putting in the effort and have the musical talent.

Take a look into the right window with The Lungs

Based in Los Angeles, punk trio The Lungs have all the aggression and energy that you would expect from a band who lives in a Mediterranean climate.

Ok, that’s a bit sarcastic – the band is way more aggressive than what you’d hear from a typical LA band.

But, that doesn’t change the fact that I love the energy they poured into “Wrong Window” and am waiting with bated breath to hear more.

The good news is, if you’re like me and want to hear more from The Lungs we won’t have to wait too long!

Their debut album will be released on October 16th, so in just about a month and a half we’ll be able to get another dose of the raw and energetic performances that went into the lead single off the album.

Take a listen below, and prepare yourself for that mid-October release!

These won’t be the last words (or letters) we write about Last Letters

Last Letters may not be a household name in the pop punk/emo scene (yet), but the momentum is starting to build.

Not only does Charles Iwuc, the man behind Last Letters, write infectious hooks – the production on his song “You Swore” is reminiscent of Angels and Airwaves guitar delays with the energy of Aaron Gillespie (Underoath) on drums.

The genre isn’t as popular as it once was, so I’m afraid that Last Letters may never get their chance to break out of a niche… But I’m sure that in the heyday of pop punk, Last Letters would’ve been one of the most popular acts there is.

Here’s to Last Letters proving me wrong and breaking through the niche and bringing great music back to the mainstream!
