Like Clockwork, Crownkeeper drop their first single

Brand new metal act Crownkeeper have just dropped their first single, Clockwork. The band who are, like many others, a product of the pandemic, offer a fresh take on metalcore.

While adhering to the genres givens (heavy verses and clean vocals in the choruses), Crownkeeper keep things fresh by having a full, lush arrangement of synths and FX to support the core instruments.

This is a band to keep your eye on, they’ll do great things!

Silverstein drop new single “It’s Over”

Canadian RMP faves Silverstein have just released their latest single, “It’s Over”. While we all want to hear the pandemic is over, the song’s lyrics point to a much more personal, introspective meaning of the song.

The song progresses further into Silverstein’s new sound that they have been exploring in the past few years, and I’m here for it. Take a listen now!

Phantom Bay goes Separate Ways

German post-hardcore band Phantom Bay have just dropped their latest track, “Separate Ways”. Based in the cities of Bremen, Hamburg, and Berlin, the band is spread throughout the Northern areas of the country.

They note that “Separate Ways” is written about the sense of regret one feels after parting ways with someone – and realizing it was a mistake. Inspired by Jimmy Eat World and Drug Church, the song will also appeal to fans of Touche Amore (which is what caught my ear) and Betrayed.

American Thrills share “Blue Collar”

We’ve shared Connecticut-based heartland punks American Thrills a few times in the past, and the band keeps dropping great songs.

This time around, we’ve got “Blue Collar” which is off of a 4-way split EP that’s out today – you can get the split from your label of choice (each label has a unique disc).

“Blue Collar” highlights the classic punk style I’ve come to love, reminding me of bands like Dropkick Murphys – sans bagpipes – The Menzingers, etc. so if you’re a fan of those bands, be sure to give American Thrills a listen!

Get nerdy with Systems & Stories

Metal and nerd culture might not seem to have much of a crossover to the casual observer, but to those in the scene it’s well known: metalheads tend to be nerds.

Just take a look at Lords of the Trident, the self-proclaimed “most metal band on earth”. They throw an annual festival with classic arcade games galore!

That’s not who we’re talking about today, though – instead I’m happy to share “Raven” by Systems & Stories, a project fronted by Justin Trombetti.

So what’s the nerdy tie in here? Systems & Stories’ debut EP Infinite Diversity, coming this fall, is Star Trek themed. “Raven” specifically is written about the character Seven of Nine.

Take a listen now and stay tuned for the band’s EP, coming soon to a streaming provider near you!

Lost in space with “Collisions” by Neon Fields

It’s not often that I enjoy primarily-electronic music – but when I do, it’s a dark, massive sound like that of Neon Fields. The electronic rock band hailing from the UK have released five singles to date, after forming just last year.

Their latest single, “Collisions”, easily stands out from the crowd of MGK soundalikes this year and immediately catches the ear because it’s different. I can honestly say I’ve ever heard one other band that’s remotely similar to Neon Fields, and that band is Modele Depose – an RMP favorite.

I’m looking forward to hearing more from Neon Fields, and I’m sure they won’t disappoint!

Seether – Wasteland

Legendary South African hard rock act Seether have just released a music video for “Wasteland”, the latest single off of their album Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum.

The song, which is in 6/8 rather than rock’s standard 4/4, offers an energetic, yet haunting picture – and the video matches perfectly.

Overall the engineering is quite good, but if you’re listening on a smart speaker or other mono device, be warned: you’re missing the rhythm guitars due to artficial widening tricks. Listen on headphones or a true stereo system to get the full picture!

Canadian hard rock act Sunset Gore have dropped a music video for their latest pair of singles, “Obsidian” and “Caffeine”. Musicians will know the feeling that creating or performing a great song brings – and that’s exactly what “Caffeine” is about, according to the band.

For fans of early 2000s hard rock along the line of Chevelle, Janus, or Deftones, Sunset Gore will be right up your alley. Explore the freedom that the band’s songs aim to share by taking a listen now!
