Mothé shares Dancing On An Empty Floor

Mothé is not like the other artists we share on RMP. Taking a break from pop punk, ska, and similar genres, “Dancing On An Empty Floor” caught my ear.

The track carefully blends pop production elements with gritty rock guitars and punchy drums resulting in an indie rock journey that wouldn’t sound out of place in a hit TV show or movie.

The bridge gets interesting with a much more electronic and synth based approach, and interestingly the song ends with a mellow, subtle outro that breaks the monotonous verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus/chorus mould. Overall, the track is quite enjoyable and I’m looking forward to hearing more.

Keep an eye out for Mothé’s upcoming debut album, I Don’t Want You to Worry Anymore, coming soon!

Compass & Cavern release “Puppies (Smile Back)”

Written before COVID changed the world, “Puppies” is Compass & Cavern’s commentary on being an introvert in an extrovert’s world. Paying homage to Canadian act PUP, the song utilizes interesting rhythms to break the mould of the standard 4/4 song and give the listener a unique experience.

Though the song reminds me quite a bit of PUP, I also find that the band brought in their own unique twist on the sound, so it’s a refreshing and original sounding take – rather than a carbon copy.

As you’re listening, don’t forget to smile back… Because what monster doesn’t smile at the sight (or sound) of a puppy, right?

“Take What You Need” from this new post-pop punk track!

Fake a Home from Phoenix Arizona bring a new track under the genre of what they call “post-pop punk.”

You can really hear the differences from standard pop punk in this song with the diverse structure and the aggression in the lyrical content as well as the breakdown section. The song brings you through a fast paced personal story of manipulation that hints at an underlying aura of anger.

Be sure to listen to the whole track and catch the pounding wall of sound and emotion in the breakdown and outro section!

Spice things up with “I Can’t Sleep”

Columbus, OH, rock duo Spice Jar have a clear sense of direction for their music.

While their influences can be heard in the track, it bursts with originality and their own unique twist on indie punk.

Somewhat ironically, the track’s most familiar sound is not from other bands of the genre, but the vocal melody of Mumford and Sons’ “Little Lion Man”. Hearing that melody over a punk song instantly piqued my interest, and I hope you will enjoy the juxtaposition as much as I do.

The band will be releasing their debut EP Rom-Com soon, so stay tuned!

These Old Wounds won’t fade

Tulsa, OK, based hard rock band Fight The Fade have released the massive new track “Old Wounds” (not to be confused with the band of the same name).

The song takes the listener on a journey by beginning with an ominous, building intro. As the song progresses seamlessly to the first verse, things seem to reach a plateau until the chorus hits – and it hits hard.

The track continues on to provide great dynamic highs and lows between the verses and choruses, and later in the song an anvil replaces the snare drum to achieve a unique and powerful sound.

Considering the band has been around for over a decade, I’m surprised I haven’t heard of them before – but I’ll absolutely be keeping my eye out for their next release!

Don’t be caught adrift outside the baselines… Listen to Stealing Home!

Based in the Bay Area, CA’s Stealing Home have dropped an excellently produced new track by the name of “Adrift”.

The mellow pop punk track has a driving, yet intricate, beat that helps push the energy forward from the very first verse. Drummer Tyler Townsend’s performance is dynamic and little details like subtle cymbal hits really add some ear candy to the song.

From a composition standpoint, the song features catchy, memorable leads that are sprinkled throughout the chorus by guitarist Taylor Amaro to keep the song interesting and fresh – you can never be quite sure when the hook is going to jump in and get you.

To top it all off, vocalist Steve Radford’s crooning voice seems to be reminiscing of years past, thinking back to good memories.

Stealing Home is certainly a band I’ll be keeping on my radar, and I hope you will, too!

These kids love cold weather – keep them warm!

Marking two posts in a row sharing bands we’ve posted before, Cold Weather Kids makes their RMP return with “Keep Me Warm”, one of the songs off of their brand new EP, Quarantunes.

We previously wrote about the band’s song “Holding On“, a catchy pop punk track. For “Keep Me Warm”, the band dug deeper into their influences, blending sounds from bands like Pierce the Veil, The Venetia Fair, and Sum 41.

The song’s driving beat in the choruses propels things forward, while the lead guitar is the highlight of the verses. If you’re a fan of any of the bands mentioned, this is definitely a track to check out!

American Thrills are just “Regular Blokes”

Based in Connecticut, American Thrills is a product of the pandemic. The band is made up of members of The Tired and True as well as Shut Up and Deal.

With an EP produced by Nick Bellmore (who has worked with Hatebreed and Make Do and Mend) on the way, saying I’m excited to hear more from this band would be an understatement. The EP will be released on December 18th, so keep your ears peeled!

With such a clean and clear mix, combined with their new classic punk sound akin to Off With Their Heads and Dropkick Murphys, American Thrills is ready to grow their audience!

Don’t be an outcast – listen to Vice Versa

Sacramento-based metalcore/progressive metal band Vice Versa are back – with a new twist on their sound, no less.

Fusing traditional metalcore riffs with modern electronic elements, I can’t help but draw a connection between Vice Versa, who is much heavier in general, and their fellow Sacramentans Jamie’s Elsewhere (yeah, bet you haven’t thought of that band in roughly a decade).

I enjoy Vice Versa’s fresh take on blending styles – they’ve successfully avoided being another cookie-cutter band like so many are these days.

One side white noise… One side pure riffs

Lynchburg, VA, metalcore act Two Sides of Me have dropped an epic new single called “White Noise”.

The song creatively blends metalcore standards such as big guitar riffs and glitches with a catchy synth line to tie the top end together.

Mixed and mastered by Zach Jones of My Enemies & I, it’s clear that Two Sides of Me is pulling out all the stops to ensure they have great material.
