Triple Tuesdays, Dec. 13th, 2016

Welcome to one of this month's sporadic features, being posted as the songs come in! Triple Tuesdays (or this time, quadruple Tuesdays) is back for the week, featuring Soul Salvation, Despite Everything, Hello Operator, and Drawstring.

Soul Salvation, hailing from Sweden, is an old school playing new school sounding indie rock band. The production on their track "Dream Girl" is exquisite. Full sounding mix, creamy guitars, punchy drums and well mixed vocals round out this song.

Up next, Greece's Despite Everything with "The Joke's On Us". A classic punk song akin to Bad Religion, Good Riddance, or Pennywise, thesong is sure to please punk fans the world around.

Jumping back to bluesy indie rock, we have Britain's Hello Operator and the song "Vex Money". The song is about "a hopeless romantic that was burning a hole in his own pocket."

Another UK based band, the emo/pop punk duo Drawstring, have released their song "School" via Old Press Records. Their album Cool was released earlier this month.

Until next time!

Pappasaft – HardeKåre

Norwegian melodic punk band Pappasaft (meaning "father juice") recently signed with Big Day Records and have plans to release a full length record on January 20th, 2017. So far they have released three singles, "HardeKåre" and "Over Streken", and "Norske Bomber". The band sent over a few quotes about HardKåre, which you can read below:

The lyrics (too bad for you guys it's in Norwegian) are about a guy with a destructive appetite for life. A kind of I-think-amphetamines-are-so-much-better-than-coffee kind of guy, "Harde" means hard and "Kåre" is a Norwegian name, so the title is a pretty lame pun on "hardcore" (which we find hillarious, by the way). It’s not inspired by anyone in particular, more like a mix of the most useless amongst our useless friends/acquaintances.

– Gard Sviggum Saabye

HardeKåre was actually one of our first songs from 2011. It was originally arranged for two guitars so we stopped playing it when three of our band members quit not long after. After five years and some re-arrangements we picked it up again because we love playing it. We'd found new ways as a three piece, so we managed to make it work – finally! The song stands out in an album where most of the songs are more of the california melodic kind. Our singer/bassplayer, Gard was listening to Gallows a lot in 2011 and felt like making something less skate-punky. I guess this is the closest we got. We're really pleased with the song and think that it shows a bit of our musical breadth within the punk genre.

– Jens Petter Johansen

The aforementioned Gallows sound can definitely be heard buried below the distrinctly pop-punky riffs, for example the riff that starts in the intro though it is quite poppy has a bit of that strange, dark sound Gallows had up until original vocalist Frank Carter left the band. The shouted gang vocals and hammer on/hammer off lead guitar also definitely screams Gallows, and that's not a bad thing at all!

For comparison to the sound found more prominently on the record, enjoy "Norske Bomber" and "Over Streken" below. Keep in mind that Pappasaft are releasing a record which comes out on Jan. 20th via Big Day Records!

Super Saturdays, Dec. 3rd, 2016

This edition of Super Saturdays is a bit short, with only two songs, but we hope you'll get a kick out of them!

FL based reggae/rock band Jacuzzi Fuzz have released their new song "Hoverboard". This is honestly one of my favorite reggae songs since Ballyhoo! released "Take It Easy" on Pineapple Grenade. "Hoverboard" is one of two new songs released, the other being "In Orbit". The band released a full length, titled The Best Worst Case Scenario, last year.

Part of what Cali Conscious makes from their song "One Love For You" will be donated to Reggae for a Reason, an organization that fights youth homelessness in southern California. The band describes themselves as "barefoot beach reggae", and in the video distributes socks to those in need.

Until the next Super Saturdays!

Life Of Agony

New York legends Life Of Agony return with a new album soon early 2017. Eager as they are to get the word out they set out to tour Europe. On their recent stop at De Mast, Torhout in Belgium (Strike vzw event) we caught up with Joey and Alan in the hope of catching a glimpse of the new album.

The number one reason for this tour is the upcoming album A Place Where There's No More Pain.

It will be released spring 2017. What may the fans expect?

Alan :

It feels great, a lot of work. Months and months of work. It's going to be good. Really good.

Joey :

I think this is the first time we made a records that we are all on the same page what kind of record we wanted to make. We all had a vision to move in a certain way.

It's it's own thing, i've you had it on a timeline it's the record that should have come out after Ugly.

Kind of has that kind of vibe.

Alan : Lyrically it's very reminiscent of Ugly period, emotionally. There's a lot in depth layers to it. With the meaning of the songs.

.Are there any of the new songs included in the setlist for this tour?

Joey :

We are going to play a new song tonight. One of those tunes we've been messing around with live.

LOA always had a good connection with Belgium. Can you tell us why?

Joey:

Defintely, the AB, that venue. We played here before, the Alcatraz festival.

We have a long history in Belgium

Alan : Biebob.

Joey: It was the second ever Belgian show we ever played. With Pro Pain and Spudmonsters.

Today your are playing with NYHC legends Madball, LOA was labeled NYHC in the past, but what would you define as the influence of NYHC on LOA?

Joey:

We grow up in the same clubs. Playing the same places, knowing the same people.

Alan :

When we were growing up me and Joey would take the bus to Brooklyn and see all the bands coming up. Bands i still love like Quicksand, Leeway,…

We would be in the pit for these bands and get excited.

Joey:

Biohazard

Alan:

Evan from Biohazard, i grew up literally across the street from him. He babysitted for me.

There's a lot of connections. We never consider ourselves hardcore but we always played on hardcore matinees. We opened up for Agnostic Front as kids, Cro Mags, Sheer Terror.

We also play with metal bands too. One of our biggest shows in New York was with Overkill.

Joey :

Type O Negative. It just worked with a lot of bands. We were able to fit in.

Alan :

There's more of a metal guitar sound on the records and lyrically it was very honest so we had that hardcore roots from the lyrical content.

Joey :

There's threads in there. No one ever was able to label us.

We heard so many different names, like metal crossover alternative out of New York hardcore scene.

If you didn't have music, LOA, what would you do for a living?

Alan :

I've always been interested in art, drawing, story telling. I do that stuff anyway. I don't know if you would get direclty into that if the band didn't start. I probably would be workng a regular job. It's hard to make a living doing anything in the arts.

Joey :

We went to art school together in Manhattan. And then we wrote River Runs Red in his basement at 17-18 years old. We would make believe we'd go to school. Then we turned around and went to his house when his parents went to work and we go in the basement, plug in and start playing.

I don't know what i would have done. I like BMX and that freestyle stuff. I like golf, people think it's boring. And i did art like Alan.

Or roasting beans… LOA has his own coffee now as merch. How did you end up with coffee of all things?

Alan :

We are all big coffee lovers. Through a friend of a friend back in New York that were producing some great flavors. So just the timing worked out. We were happy, we got our coffee.

Joey :

I did this interview and this guy asked, why coffee, why no Life Of Agony beer. I was laughing.

We've been there, done that. Now we have families and we are responsible so coffee more normal.

RMP has partnered with London based rock duo Tokyo Taboo to premiere their video for the song "Self Sabotage", off of their upcoming record 6th Street Psychosis. The album drops on March 24th on TT Records. Produced, edited, and directed by Roger Spy, the video takes place in the digital world with bandmembers Dolly Daggerz and Mike performing over an ever changing background made of 1s and 0s. The recording featured Sean William Friday on drums and Chris Null on bass. You can pre-order Tokyo Taboo's debut record on iTunes, and follow the band on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Enjoy!

Triple Tuesdays, Nov. 29th, 2016

Time for another Triple Tuesdays! This week I've been digging 90s sounds, so all three songs have obvious 90s influences!

Happy Incident released a self titled EP in March of this year, and have now sent their latest single, "Backbiter", to us. The upbeat, 90s sounding song, talks about breakups and calling partners out on their bull.

London alt-rock band Tenth Electric have dropped the titular from their upcoming EP, Burn. The EP will be available for preorder on iTunes starting Dec. 1st, and will be released on March 1st, 2017. If you like heavy 90s guitar riffs with a wall of sound mix, this is a track for you!

Lastly, we have 222 with the song "Rebuilding Society on a Shoestring Budget". The father and son duo from CT released the song on their Soundcloud page, where you can find more music from the band.

Until next week for another Triple Tuesdays!

Metal Mondays, Nov. 28th, 2016

If you have a case of the Mondays, I know what will make it better… Metal Mondays!

First up, London's new hard rockers, PH-ARM. "Nice Party" is one of the singles off of their upcoming debut album, 152. Punchy drums and flaming hot guitar tones push this song foward with 90s-sounding vocals that have both clarity and aggression.

Next up, the Swiss band Last Leaf Down. The band include atmospheric vocals over laid back guitar riffs in this heavy yet mellow sounding song, "The Path". Described as "Shoegaze from the woods", the band brings together shoegaze and metal. The two styles are combined quite well – a heavy foundation and rhythm section, with whispy guitars and vocals on top. The band's new album will be released next spring.

Last, we have Sonic Syndicate with "Start a War (Zardonic Remix)". It's a remix of a somewhat generic rock song featuring lots of "woah oh ohh"s. It's basically something a band popular with the mid teen demographic on Warped Tour would play (don't get me wrong, I LOVE Warped Tour). The remix is definitely more exciting than the original, but not by much.

Until the next Metal Mondays!

Super Saturdays, Nov. 26th, 2016

You guessed it, more cool bands for this week's Super Saturdays!

First off, we have Mona's new video for their song "In The Middle". The Nashville natives are heading out on their first UK/EU tour since 2013. Soulful vocals accompany a steady, ever forward marching beat in this artistically lo-fi video. The song is available on iTunes now.

Next up, New Zealand indie rockers Tablefox and their song "Under a Broken Smile". The song is from an EP scheduled for release in early 2017, following up their 2015 debut, Objects.

"Who's Scott Green", you may ask? So do Dune Rats, Brisbane, Australia's, grunge punks. If you like Violent Soho, chances are you'll like Dune Rats. Enjoy!

Rounding out this weekend's selections, I present Gramercy Park and their video for "Hanging From the Edge". The song features a sound that will likely be familiar to many, reminiscent of 80s/90s pop rock. At the same time, the song features more modern sounding vocals.

Until the next Super Saturdays!

Premiere: GANGS – Dance With Your Own Bones

Gangs Promo Image

Scottish indie band GANGS have partnered up with RMP to drop the video for their new single, Dance With Your Own Bones. The song will be officially released on Dec. 9th, 2016, through Smooth Action Records. With this, their third single, GANGS showcase raw energy with a driving beat and layered guitars, as well as a rolling bass line. The band consists of Steven Young on vocals/guitar, Alan Davidson on guitar, Marc MacCallum on bass/vocals, and last but not least Stephen Forbes holding it down on drums. To listen to the band's previous releases, visit their Soundcloud page. You can also follow them on Twitter.

Triple Tuesdays Nov. 22nd, 2016

First this week on Triple Tuesdays I present to you Knightingale, with their 95 second long kickass track, "Demons". The band from Singapore released their debut album God Damn Youth earlier this year. Although the band classify themselves as garage rock, they clearly have a host of other influences and state that they want to push their boundaries to showcase their music to a wider audience. The album is available on Bandcamp free of charge (pay what you want).

Next is the UK's Music and Medicine, and their single "Waves". It's the first song the band have released, and not much info is available on the band themselves, but I'm excited to hear more from the hard rock quartet.

Last in this Triple Tuesdays we have Vegan Footsoldier with "Socially Unacceptable". The YouTuber uses music to perform outreach about a cause he cares for, animal rights. Having played all the instruments and mixed the song himself, the Footsoldier makes a convincing point to end the use of all animals worldwide.
